Summary:
Death favors no one.
In the bustling industrial cities of Victorian America, soot clouds darken the skies, plaguing citizens with Black Lung. Rich or poor, young or old, no matter their station, no one is able to escape the life-threatening disease, and the West family is no exception.
Overcome by death and sickness, the Wests flee to the New Territories for refuge, only to discover more devastation. Wind and drought ravage the land and no one is safe. No place on earth is untouched by The Shift.
Borne of Sand and Scorn is the prelude to the post-apocalyptic adventure, Dust and Shadow, and is a Forgotten Lands Series Prequel.

Readers Thoughts: I received an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review before release.
Where do I start? Lindsey has done it again. She has given us a short preview of Lizzy, Jo’s ancestor and the starter of the butterfly necklace. Lizzy made this series seem more personal. You have a young woman who suffers from black lung. She and her family, try to run from the danger to the Wild West. Only the west isn’t what they thought it would be.
Que in Brandon. Our kind Marshal, who has a troubled past and a bruised heart. He never knew what love was like, until he met our Lizzy.
Brandon and Lizzy are the start of the Forgotten Lands series. This prequel allows us to see how Sagebrush was started. How the town becomes what we know in Dust and Shadow. What I personally loved was that in Dust and Shadow, Lizzy and Brandon have been mentioned several times. So for Lindsey to bring these two characters to life, to see how it was all started, it was icing on the cake. I could not wait to get to the end. It has the reader’s attention from the first page to the last.
