Summary: Eleven years ago, my mother was murdered, and still, her killer lives in plain sight. In Sagebrush Canyon, thirst rules, ignorance is power, and nothing is as it seems. It’s been two centuries since the boom of the Industrial Revolution sent the Victorian world into a devastating climatic shift. Now, chivalry is dead and the frills and frivolities of the romantic era are no more than a fading memory. Jo has kept to the safety of her family’s farm, desperate to forget the horrific day that took her mother and left Jo battered and broken. But the marshal of Sagebrush is everywhere--he controls everything--and for years Jo has had to stomach the false pleasantries and knowing glint in the eyes of the man who killed her mother. When Jo discovers how deep the marshal’s seedy dealings run she decides that fear will no longer keep her silent. But just when Jo plans to expose him for what he really is, the marshal plays a card of his own—his notoriously scandalous son, Clayton. As Jo and Clayton are thrust together, lines become blurred, truths are revealed, and Jo must decide what she is willing to sacrifice in exchange for retribution. Dust and Shadow is a post-apocalyptic love story and Victorian adventure set in a devastated and forgotten world of the American wild west.

Readers Thoughts: I was given a copy of Dust and Shadow for an honest review.  Let me start by saying I absolutely love Lindsey's novels. Each one is a new adventure to go on.
Now I would like to say that what I loved about D&S are the strong characters. I personally didn't believe that anything was cliche about this novel. You have Jo, a troubled young woman scared (literally) by a past she can't forget. You also have Clayton, a young man who is the son of a murdering Marshall and is expected to take the leaders place.
Throw in an incredible sand storm, that threatens everyone and you have a post apocalyptic wild west. That takes place in the future.
I've noticed from the beginning that Jo and Clayton have quite a bit of headbutting. Jo is independent and headstrong (could you blame her?) Clayton is also stubborn but caring.
Like any other heroine and hero, they have their weakness. I loved how Clayton's weakness is his little sister. Bless her little heart. I think Izzy won me over. That and the butterflies. What girl (even this tomboyish girl) doesn't like butterflies? I mean look at the awesome cover!!!!!!
The setting itself reminded me of the tales and photos my father shared of Iraq. All desert no greenery. I was able to picture the setting quite easily.
I was rooting for a Job/Clayton all the way. I just couldn't wait for the characters to find their chemistry.

** I was asked to write a review for this novel.
It was not agreed for the review to be positive.
