Review: The Jewel (Lone City #1) by Amy Fleming

Star Rating: 4/5 stars
Recommend: Yes
Final Thoughts: Distraught from cliffhanger

I got The Jewel on a whim during a buy two for one sale via Audible. Which is narrated by Erin Spencer. I read the reviews for the audiobook and got a lot of mixed reviews. A lot of people didn't enjoy the narrator's speech and way of narrating. They said she "constantly sounded as though she was complaining." However, I found it rather enjoyable. Erin was clear and simple. It felt as though she was the character, Violet.
My overall rating for the audiobook: 4/5 Stars.
My overall rating for the narrator: 4/5 Stars
My overall rating of the cover: 5/5 Stars. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. At first glance you'd be under the impression that The Jewel was apart of The Selection Series by Kiera Cass.
Below is my official review for the book.

I enjoyed the clear speech of the narrator and the concept of the story.
In The Jewel you follow Violet as she's sold at auction to a Duchess for the purpose of surrogating. (A.K.A. a breeder bag for a baby.) In the mist of it all, Violet learns that the royals are not at all perfect. they have their conflicts and rules they have to follow as well.
To Violet's surprise, she learns that her auguries (mysterious powers that only certain females have, which makes them automatic surrogates) not only is she more power than she thought, but that she is tasked to "mold" a baby into the perfect child..... that is, if she becomes pregnant.
With her only dream of escaping and being free, Violet doesn't expect Ashe. A handsome man with a broken past, like her. Only unlike her, Ashe is a slave for life. As Ashe and Violet's friendship grows, they don't expect to fall in love.
Closer to her time to be impregnated, violet learns a terrible secret. One that hits closer to home. After seeing her best friend, Raven, abused and pregnant; Violet has to choose, escape and leave her new found love and her best friend. Or stay, saving Raven and her loving Ashe.
Queue major cliff hanger.
The cliffhanger has me so distraught, I can't wait to get my hands on book two!

Until next time my Dragons!
