Review: Three Dark Crowns

Star Rating: 3/5 stars
Recommend: Yes but stay focused.

This review is for 2016's release Three Dark Crowns. I have done periodic updates during my progress with this book. I started this book in December, intending to make it my final read for 2016. but then something happened.

I lost interest.
It sucks when a reader looses interest with a book that they wanted to read. For me it's always the hype and the style it was written. This book fell into that category.
The hype killed it for me. I was on page 156 for two to three weeks before I picked it up again. It just wasn't as exciting and thrilling as the hype made it out to be. Then it was the style. You follow to many characters. I expected to follow the three Queens. Not all the other characters as well. So it threw me off even more.

In the novel you follow Queen Maribella, an elemental queen. Queen Arsione, a naturalist queen. and lastly Queen Katherine, a poisoner queen. All three queens have a gift that is suppose to be more powerful than the people of the country for which they rule, given to them by the Goddess. Once the triplets turn 17, they do a celebration to start the Ascension Year, called Beltane. During the Ascension year, the three queens must fight for the throne. Only one queen can rule. The other two must be killed and the Goddess would "bless" the wining Queen.
However, in this book you also follow a priestess, Arsione's friend Jules and Katherine's lover Petyr and his aunt Natalia. This book followed to many people which killed the experience. The Priestesses are trying to cause a Sacrificial Year for a White Handed Queen. It doesn't stay on point, in my opinion.
This book would have been better if it followed the Three Queens alone.

Now there are a couple of things that I liked about this book.
The summary is different. It's a rhyme or a poem.

And also, the map!!!!!
After I pushed myself to get passed page 156, I actually did like the book. Second half was WAY better than the first half.
But more action started happening. More Conspiracies, drama and deceit. The second half should have been how the first half was. Enough going on not to bore the reader. If the second half was as bad as the first half, I would have given this book an honest 1 or 2 stars. but because the second half was better, I give it an honest 3 stars.

I do recommend this book........ but it has tot be the ONLY book you are reading and you need to stay focused on it.
