Rablings of a Book Dragon: my Reading story

I have noticed that, over time, my taste in books have progressively changed over time. As do other readers.
I started off reading books that had something to do with horses. The book that spiked my interest in reading was Black Beauty. Not the short versions they have now. The thick ones, the ones that had more to the story. Then I was hooked into the Black Stallion series. Which seems to never end. I still have my Black Stallion series too.
Over time I moved to the classics. Jane Austen and Jack London. After a couple of years I read Christian fiction. Mostly historical fiction. That one lasted a long time. A good 4 years, I read nothing but Christian historical fiction. Sometime during that same time frame I read manga.
A lot of people, I noticed, don't like to call mangas books. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I have no clue. To me it was also a book, just a little more chaotic and visual.
The first manga series I read was 20 volumes and called Black Cat. Loved Black Cat. It was full of action and fun. My last one I completed was Rurouni Kenshin (28 volumes total) After I finished Rurouni Kenshin, I couldn't get back into mangas anymore.
Eventually I got out of Christian fiction too. Fell in love with Nicholas Sparks and JoJo Moyes. Fought zombies with Jamie McGuire. Survived the Hunger Games.
In the end, I discovered YA. A genre I never got into. I went from childrens books straight to Adult. But never YA. I started slowly a few years back. Now I am hooked.
However, one genre that I love the most that no one seems to write, is New Adult. A genre that is more towards people my age. Ones that I could relate too. New Adult is a fairly new genre that few authors write, so it seems. So as I wait for this genre to expand more, I am stuck with YA.
How did you start reading? What books/genres got you started?
Let me know in the comments below.

In the meantime, Read on my dragons!
